Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a "nose job," is a surgical procedure aimed at altering the aesthetic and functional aspects of the nose. It can address issues such as nasal shape, size, and structural problems like a deviated septum. The surgery is tailored to the individual's facial structure and specific concerns to achieve a harmonious and functional outcome.
Prior to rhinoplasty, a comprehensive examination of the nasal passages is essential to identify any issues like nasal congestion or postnasal drip. Photographs are taken to facilitate accurate nose and facial analysis, ensuring the surgical plan aligns with the patient's aesthetic goals and functional needs.
In rhinoplasty, two primary approaches are used: Open Technique: Involves a small, nearly invisible incision on the columella (the tissue between the nostrils), providing direct visibility of the nasal structures. Closed Technique: All incisions are made inside the nostrils, resulting in no visible external scars. The choice between these techniques depends on the specific nasal issues and the surgeon's assessment.
Revision rhinoplasty is a corrective procedure performed on individuals who have previously undergone nasal surgery but are dissatisfied with the results, either aesthetically or functionally. This surgery addresses unresolved issues or complications from the initial procedure.
Sinusitis is the inflammation of the sinuses, often resulting from blocked sinus openings following upper respiratory infections. Symptoms include nasal congestion, facial pain, and nasal discharge. Treatment varies based on the condition's duration and severity: Acute Sinusitis: Typically managed with medications like antibiotics and nasal sprays. Chronic Sinusitis: May require surgical intervention, such as Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), to restore normal sinus function.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by repeated episodes of partial or complete blockage of the upper airway during sleep, leading to breathing pauses. Surgical treatments aim to remove or reduce the obstructions and may include procedures like uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) or nasal surgeries to improve airflow.
A deviated septum occurs when the nasal septum—the wall dividing the nasal passages—is displaced to one side, potentially causing nasal congestion, nosebleeds, and breathing difficulties. Surgical correction, known as septoplasty, is considered when these symptoms significantly impact quality of life and are unresponsive to medical treatments.
Snoring is often caused by the vibration of soft tissues in the throat due to obstructed airflow during sleep. Contributing factors include nasal congestion, obesity, and anatomical abnormalities. Treatment options range from lifestyle changes and medical devices to surgical interventions aimed at removing or reducing the obstructive tissues.
