Breast Implant Removal

Breast implant removal is a surgical procedure to remove breast implants, which may be performed for various reasons, including implant complications, personal preference, or health concerns. This procedure is also known as explantation. Reasons for opting for breast implant removal may include dissatisfaction with implant size or shape, capsular contracture (a condition where scar tissue forms around the implant), implant rupture or leakage, or health issues such as concerns about breast implant illness.

The surgery involves making an incision, usually in the same location as the original implant placement, to remove the implants and, if necessary, the surrounding scar tissue or capsule. Depending on the patient’s needs, additional procedures such as breast lift or reconstructive surgery may be performed to restore the breast’s appearance after implant removal. Recovery time can vary, with most patients experiencing some swelling and discomfort that subsides within a few weeks. Implant removal can help alleviate symptoms and address cosmetic concerns, offering a chance to reassess future breast aesthetics.
