Cervicogenic Headache

Cervicogenic headaches are a type of headache that originates from issues in the cervical spine (neck), rather than from the head itself. This type of headache is often caused by problems such as poor posture, neck injuries, or degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis. The pain from a cervicogenic headache typically starts in the neck and radiates to the back of the head, temples, or behind the eyes. It can also be accompanied by neck stiffness, reduced range of motion, and tenderness in the neck muscles.

These headaches are often mistaken for migraines or tension headaches, but the key difference is that cervicogenic headaches stem from structural issues in the neck. Chiropractors can effectively treat cervicogenic headaches by focusing on correcting misalignments in the cervical spine, improving posture, and relieving tension in the neck muscles. Chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and targeted exercises are common treatments that not only reduce the frequency and intensity of the headaches but also address the root cause, leading to long-term relief and improved quality of life.
