Chin Reshaping Surgery (Genioplasty)

Genioplasty, commonly referred to as chin reshaping surgery, is a surgical procedure designed to alter the position and shape of the chin bone to improve facial aesthetics and function. Unlike mentoplasty, which may involve implants, genioplasty typically entails repositioning the existing chin bone. This can address issues such as a receding chin (retrognathia), protruding chin (prognathia), or asymmetry. The procedure involves making an incision inside the mouth to access the chin bone, which is then cut and moved to the desired position. The bone is secured using plates and screws, and the incision is closed with sutures. Genioplasty can be performed to enhance facial harmony, improve jaw function, or correct congenital deformities. Recovery involves managing swelling and discomfort, with most patients returning to normal activities within two weeks. As with any surgical procedure, it’s crucial to consult with a board-certified surgeon to discuss individual goals, potential risks, and the expected outcomes of the surgery.
