Impingement Syndrome

Impingement syndrome is a common condition that affects the shoulder joint, causing pain and restricted movement. It occurs when the rotator cuff tendons or the bursa, a fluid-filled sac that cushions the joint, become compressed or pinched between the bones in the shoulder. This compression leads to inflammation, irritation, and discomfort, especially during overhead movements or repetitive shoulder use. Athletes and individuals who engage in activities that involve frequent lifting, reaching, or throwing are particularly susceptible to this condition.

The symptoms of impingement syndrome typically include pain in the front or side of the shoulder, especially when lifting the arm, as well as weakness and reduced range of motion. Over time, untreated impingement can lead to more serious issues, such as rotator cuff tears or chronic shoulder pain. Treatment usually focuses on reducing inflammation, improving shoulder mobility, and strengthening the surrounding muscles. Chiropractic care, physical therapy, and corrective exercises can play a significant role in managing impingement syndrome by addressing both the symptoms and the underlying biomechanical issues causing the compression.
