This approach is commonly used in gynecology for procedures such as hysterectomies, removal of ovarian cysts, and treatment of endometriosis. The benefits of laparoscopic surgery include smaller scars, less pain, reduced risk of infection, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery compared to traditional open surgery. During the procedure, the abdomen is inflated with gas to provide a better view of the internal organs, and the surgeon operates using images transmitted by the laparoscope to a video monitor.
