Malnutrition

Malnutrition is a serious condition that occurs when a person’s diet lacks the necessary nutrients for healthy body function or when the body is unable to absorb nutrients effectively. It can result from an inadequate or unbalanced diet, underlying health conditions, or both. Malnutrition manifests in various forms, including undernutrition (wasting, stunting, and underweight), micronutrient deficiencies, and overnutrition (obesity). Undernutrition weakens the immune system, impairs physical and cognitive development in children, and increases the risk of chronic diseases in adults. Addressing malnutrition involves ensuring access to nutrient-rich foods, promoting balanced diets, and providing nutritional education and support to vulnerable populations. Early intervention and comprehensive healthcare strategies are essential for preventing and treating malnutrition, thereby improving overall health and quality of life.
