Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a common cancer in men, occurring in the prostate gland, which produces seminal fluid. It typically grows slowly and can be detected early through screening methods like the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test and digital rectal exams (DRE).

Risk factors for prostate cancer include age, family history, race, and certain genetic mutations. Symptoms, when they occur, can include difficulty urinating, blood in urine or semen, erectile dysfunction, and pain in the hips or back.

Treatment options vary based on the cancer’s stage and may include active surveillance, surgery (prostatectomy), radiation therapy, hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy. Early-stage prostate cancer often has a good prognosis, especially when detected and treated early.

Ongoing research and advances in treatment options continue to improve outcomes for men with prostate cancer.
