Dr. Basir Hashemi is a distinguished otolaryngologist based in Shiraz, Iran, with an extensive academic and clinical career spanning over three decades. He completed his Doctorate in Medicine from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in 1989 and earned his specialization in Otorhinolaryngology in 1996 from the same institution. Later, Dr. Hashemi pursued an advanced fellowship in ear and skull base surgery in 2016 and took additional courses in larynx and ear surgery at the University of Mainz, Germany, and cochlear implant techniques at Iran University of Medical Sciences.
As a professor and faculty member at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Seyed Basir Hashemi has held numerous key roles, including Vice President of Research and Technology, Research Director, and Head of the Otolaryngology Department. He has contributed significantly to otolaryngology research and education in Iran, serving as the National Secretary for the Board of Ear, Nose, and Throat Surgery, as well as on the Board of Examiners. Dr. Hashemi’s pioneering work includes founding the Fars Cochlear Implantation Center and conducting over 2,500 cochlear implant surgeries. He introduced innovative procedures in southern Iran, such as the first brainstem implant surgery and implantable hearing aid surgery, elevating the region’s surgical standards.
Dr. Hashemi’s expertise, leadership, and active involvement in research have made him a notable figure in Iran’s medical community. He is a member of the Iranian Surgeons Association and an editorial board member for prestigious medical journals, contributing to advances in otolaryngology both nationally and internationally.
