Vitreo-Retinal Diseases

Vitreo-Retinal Diseases fellowship provides comprehensive training in the diagnosis, medical management, and surgical treatment of a wide range of retinal conditions. These fellowships typically last one to two years and offer extensive clinical and surgical experience.

Clinical Training

Fellows gain proficiency in evaluating and managing patients with various retinal disorders, including:

  • Age-related macular degeneration
  • Diabetic retinopathy
  • Retinal vascular diseases
  • Inflammatory and infectious diseases
  • Retinal dystrophies
  • Retinal tears and detachments

They become skilled in interpreting diagnostic tests such as:

  • Fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
  • Ultrasonography
  • Electrophysiology (ERG and EOG)

Surgical Training

Fellows perform a significant number of vitreoretinal surgeries, including:

  • Pars plana vitrectomy
  • Scleral buckling
  • Membrane peeling
  • Retinal detachment repair
  • Intravitreal injections
  • Laser photocoagulation

They work closely with experienced faculty and may assist in resident surgeries as well.
