Hoodectomy

Hoodectomy also referred to as clitoral hood reduction, is a specialized surgical procedure designed to reduce the size of the clitoral hood, the fold of skin that covers the clitoris. This operation is commonly sought by women who experience discomfort, irritation or reduced sexual pleasure due to an excessively large or redundant clitoral hood. During the procedure, which is typically performed under local anesthesia, excess tissue around the clitoris is carefully removed to expose more of the clitoral surface. The surgery aims to enhance sexual pleasure by allowing for increased stimulation and to alleviate any physical discomfort experienced during activities such as exercise or sexual intercourse. Post-surgery, patients may experience improved genital comfort and increased sexual satisfaction. Recovery generally involves minimal downtime, with most individuals resuming normal activities within a few weeks. Hoodectomy is considered a safe and effective procedure, though as with any surgical intervention, it requires careful consideration and consultation with a qualified gynecologist or plastic surgeon to ensure it aligns with the patient’s goals and health needs.
