Osteomyelitis Treatment

Osteomyelitis is a severe bone infection that can result from bacterial or fungal pathogens. Treatment for osteomyelitis typically involves a combination of antibiotics or antifungal medications and, in some cases, surgical intervention. The primary goal of treatment is to eradicate the infection, relieve symptoms, and restore bone health. Antibiotic therapy is usually administered over an extended period, either orally or intravenously, depending on the severity of the infection. In cases where antibiotics alone are insufficient, surgical debridement may be required to remove infected or necrotic tissue. Proper management of osteomyelitis is crucial to prevent complications such as chronic infection or bone loss, and may involve multidisciplinary care to address underlying conditions contributing to the infection.
