Tendon Repairs

Tendon repairs are surgical procedures used to restore the function of a damaged or torn tendon. Tendons are fibrous tissues that connect muscles to bones, allowing movement and flexibility. When tendons are torn or ruptured, it can lead to significant pain, weakness, and loss of mobility in the affected area. Tendon injuries often result from trauma, sports injuries, or degenerative conditions, and the most commonly affected areas include the hands, feet, knees, shoulders, and elbows.

The goal of tendon repair surgery is to reconnect the damaged tendon ends, allowing the body to heal and regain strength and function. The procedure typically involves making a small incision near the injury site and suturing the tendon back together. In more complex cases, tendon grafts may be required, where tissue is taken from another part of the body to replace or reinforce the damaged tendon.

Post-surgery, patients usually undergo physical therapy to regain strength and mobility in the affected joint. Recovery time can vary depending on the severity of the injury and the specific tendon involved, but most patients can expect to return to full function within several months. Early intervention and proper rehabilitation are key to ensuring a successful recovery.
