Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy and Mesoneedling, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure used to treat various skin issues. It involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin, which triggers the body’s natural healing process and stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This process helps to improve the texture and firmness of the skin, reduce scars, diminish fine lines and wrinkles, and treat hyperpigmentation.
The procedure is typically performed using a device called a dermaroller or a more advanced microneedling pen. These devices can be adjusted to different needle lengths depending on the area being treated and the specific skin concern. The treatment is relatively quick, usually taking about 30 minutes to an hour, and requires minimal downtime. Most patients experience mild redness and swelling, similar to a sunburn, which subsides within a few days.
Microneedling is suitable for all skin types and can be performed on various parts of the body, including the face, neck, décolletage, and hands. To achieve optimal results, multiple sessions are often recommended, spaced a few weeks apart. Additionally, microneedling can be combined with other treatments, such as topical serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy, to enhance its effectiveness.
